FOUND ART SHARING

I have been busy as usual, surfing ‘n clicking, copying urls and storing them away for content in my blog.  So, where has my blog been?  You ask.  Good question, one I have no easy answer for, just the usual “reasons, no excuses”.

It is all to easy I have found to get lost in the ether.  Click on one interesting thing and it leads one to ten more fascinating wonders of the net.  Yeah, and I have been here at my computer checking out as many as my mind can handle, storing urls to some mighty fine art and artists.  I have found people who tie knots to form various items, from critters to fine jewelry to basketry.  There are fiber artists who paint fine pictures with fabric and stitches, and stitchery artists that accent stitchery with a bit of fabric.  That is just a start.  I will begin with one of those.

Visit Susan Robin Sorrell’s website to check out her fiber art

Susan Robin Sorrell, who calls herself a “mixed media artist“, combines the-hard-truth-about-dreams_2-220x170Susan Sorrellsewing, beading, and embellishing on fabric.  Her newest series, “Southern Fried Fiber” is influenced by her Southern roots, and is a total delight to any one who loves stitchery and originality! Hard-Favored-Face-2006-1-220x170Susan Sorrell I am one of those, I am a total fan, and I hope you check out her site and her Facebook fan page.  Please “like” her page at the top of the page if you drop in, (only if you truly like it) but what is not to like?

Like subject matter to be a bit “verboten”?  Well these are not quite there, but once were.

And then there is newer more harangued  upon subject.  It is near and dear to our modern day libertines and medical recipients.            Pot head 2004  ‘POT HEAD”

I love Susan’s work, I got lost in the pages of her website for a long time.  Maybe I should not tell you that, then you may not go there and find out what I mean.  Trust me, it is a worthwhile venture!

555_2575Yes, I am back, one, to humbly apologize for the long absence.  Two, to announce there will be a new look.  Three and most important to myself, I am going to change the name of my blog to:  CILIPOWERKNOTS, I Knot Therefore I Am.  This will coordinate with my new artist page I am presently creating on Facebook, and as  soon as I can make it happen, my website will also be CILIPOWERKNOTS, I Knot Therefore I  Am.  I already have the domain cilipowerknots.com, yea!  Just not the site.

Now that I have told you the news, I would like to show you something I was talking about working on.  Well, that is all I did, all I was able to, due to having no photography abilities or tools.  That has changed, I now have the tool, and am sincerely working on the abilities.  My new picturess are way better than the shots I was getting with my web cam, but still a long way from a professional art studio.  I will give you the best of the many, many experimental shots I have taken by way of learning.  Here goes:  Announcing at long last…”Fantastic Fingers”!

OMG!  This one took me forever to get it done!  And forever and a day to get a picture made of it, then again as long to get here to write about it!  It is here at last, I am so happy to finally present this piece that I have gone on about.  I knew it would be one that I would be proud of and that has played out as I suspected it would.  I am proud as a peacock!  If you could only see me when I stand and look at it, you would see my chest puff up, and on my face a proprietary grin!

Now I am going to tell you a little story about my showing this at the next to last First Friday Art Walk Show at Alley Cat Artists (they are now closed due to lack of funding).  Well, anyway, that is the way things go, unfortunately.  So, I had gone down to Alley Cat to take this piece and one other to drop it off for the next show.  The lady who was running Alley Cat was not there, and I gave it to one of her stand ins, who I showed the various little instructions I had for how it should be hung (some times things need to be bent, tugged, and or pushed to present as I wish).   I got a proper response from her so I figured all would be well.  When it came time to go to the show on Friday evening, I was under the weather so I did not go.  It was not till a few days later that I managed to get down to the gallery, and low, and behold it was hung upside down!  I have had similar problems before with items being hung backwards and told myself, “Self, you need to be there when it is hung if you want it hung properly!”  So, when I found it hung upside down all I could do was laugh!  What else could I do?  Sarah was so apologetic but I assured her I just thought it funny that my work was such that it still looked good backwards or forwards, upside down or upright!  Thus, I am going to add shots of “Fantastic Fingers” North, South, East and West views.  I do not have pictures of backwards, so don’t ask.  You already have the North View  Here goes the rest:

FANTASTIC FINGERS SOUTH

East View

FANTASTIC FINGERS EAST

West View

And there you have it!  Yea! I did it, it only took me a couple of hours to get these three pictures just the way I wanted them, I won’t bore you with details, (giggle) I am just so happy I am able to pat myself on the back and say to my self:  “Self, it is done.”

I will not allow so much time between entries into blog-dom from now on in!  Even though I have not been producing a whole lot lately due to both research and practicing avoidance(otherwise known as procrastination).  At least I can say much of what I do to while my hours away in retirement has to do with forwarding my artistic endeavors to the point of being able to sell online.  I get closer all the time.  At least that is what I tell myself.  Enjoy my mini triumph of whipping this post into shape, and know that I will be back real soon!

I have been following an online gallery for a while called Light Space & Time.  http://www.lightspacetime.com   From month to month they have new juried competitions with varying subjects.  From the middle of March 2012 through the April 28, 2012 it was “NATURE”.  The next one coming up is “FIGURATIVE”.  Mostly I have only seen calls for 2D art, which leaves me out of the call.  Still it is fun to follow, the “NATURE” competition has some very beautiful pieces.  There are awards for 1st through 5th place, plus 5 Honorable Mentions.

A while ago I mentioned that I have been combing the internet to find art and artists that I love.  My plan was to compile a list, and to add a bunch of links all at once.  Well, I have been going at my usual unorganized snail pace on that one.  I am very much not a techy person, and I am not even sure how to make a blogroll happen.  I have gathered quite a list, and that is the next thing I am going to do on this blog.  Maybe even get it started here and now.  Wish me luck!  Here is a piece from one of my artists in my links, Patty Heibel, I am adding it as a tease for you to try her link!  Her work is very realistic and amazing!  Enjoy!

Ok, my attempt at adding a blogroll type of list of links did not work, so I am going to try this again, but in a different way.  Here is the link for Patty Heibel:  http://www.astronomyartgallery.com/  —————————————>

Here are some more that I liked, Wendy Rosen:  www.AmericanMadeAlliance.org  and www.ArtsBusinessInstitute.org

That is the only thing I have thought of so far to call the newest piece I am working on.  It is inspired by the horns of a bull.  “A bull”, you ask?  Yeah, I said the horns of a bull.  I am going to post a picture of a bull with whom I have a close relationship.  I must at first set up a bit of the scenario for you.  I live in Ellensburg, WA which is widely known its Spirit of the West Rodeo Week.  Two years ago the First Friday for the month in which Spirit of the West Rodeo Week fell, I did a bull.  The title of the piece is:  “Introducing Leroy Gonzoles, Lets Get Ready to Rum-Boool!”.  So, without further ado….

Heeeere’s Leroy!   I was playing around with my granddaughter and my webcam a little over a week ago and I realized Leroy was on the wall behind me and he was showing up fairly well, so I played around with getting a shot of him and I together, hehe, and this is what I ended up with.  It gave me a good chuckle so I thought, well maybe it might just put a smile on someone else’s face, as well.  something tells me I am right, now that I have place him here.  Now, I am going to add another shot of my dear friend, Leroy Gonzoles, one that may do more than make you smile, hopefully the next shot of my “bovine compon-ye” (my phonetic rendering of a french word for company/buddy/friend who is companionable).

Here goes:

I did this part once before, hit publish and half of what I had written disappeared!  Lol, as if that had never happened before!  It has happened to me maybe a third of the times I have posted anything in this blog!  And I am sure, beyond doubt, that it is all my “non-techy” fault!   I manage to do something goofy, or clumsy, or forgetful, and time and energy, and undoubtably wonderful content just goes:  POOOFFF!! gone.  So I am not going to sweat the stuff I had written.  I am showing this picture of myself and Leroy because of “Fantastic Fingers”.   Last week I was telling a friend about the piece I am currently working on, and I asked her to remember how Leroy’s horns looked on the end, and imagine a piece with many similar “appendages” with shapes similar to the ends of he horns.  These Fantastic Fingers are pointing every which way but Sunday and the rest of the story is yet to be born.  I have thought of perhaps doing a “work in progress” type of picture for the purpose of explanation that words can come not nearly close enough to really do something justice.  But that would not be nearly as much fun.  I do love words, and the power of artistic licence.

New York City!

Oh, just to be among the amazing talent associated with “Art Takes New York City”!  Yes, I have entered my Nine Claims to Fame.  Laugh out loud!!  Loudly!

Solar Powered, Wind Assisted, Manually Operated Clothes Dryer

If you are not privy to that which I speak of…Hear Ye!  Hear Ye!  Hear Ye!  Artists Wanted in one major  virtual gallery exhibition extraordinaire in NEW YORK CITY!?!  Nothing I imagined that I would try for, not in my usual fantasies of myself as an artist of mere emerging status.  But last night I caught the fever, thanks to a fellow artist on LinkedIn.  Michael Gaudet, said artist told others about it in a discussion I have been following for a while now.  I have not been active in the discussion for a while, though I read it often.  He was asking for people to vote for him, to “collect him” as it were so he could gather enough votes, or clicks or “collectors” to gain entry into a juried competition.  He piqued my curiosity, as much to see his work as anything, I am constantly getting lost in the wonders of the art of other’s.  So, I took the bait, hook line and I am sunk.  Lol!

You can find out for yourself what I am talking about by going to  http://artistswanted.org which I believe will get you to the application process, and information about the show.  Or, and this way is the way I found out, by following Michael Gaudet’s personal link to observe his work for the purpose of voting for, or “collecting” his work in my own personal virtual “collection”.  An artist may enter the show in two ways, by buying a premium entry for $25 or by asking others to vote for his work, by clicking on the “collect me” button at the top of his Artist’s Entry Display.  There was something about the number 7 clicks that I did not quite get, but I did get that by gaining 77 votes, or “collectors” one wins the premium entry fee, and is assured an entry into the show.  THE SHOW:  Art Takes New York City.  Which is a juried competition, the 77 “collectors” are the judges.  The artists who garner the most votes win big.  An artist can win up to $10,000.  However at least one judge will also win.  Not sure if there are multiples of this prize, but a judge can win a weekend in NYC for the show, with a cash prize of $2,500!

http://CeciliaPower.artistswanted.org/atts2012 is the link to vote for me, to “collect me” by clicking one time on the be-starred button at the top of my display. My pictures of my work are what they are, however they could be better quality, so I have no illusions of winning big, or winning at all because there are some very, very talented artists in the show.

Those who have work that is probably more relevant and certainly more recognizable by the “collecting” public as “Art” vs “Craft”.  I do believe I have as much chance as any other ” virtual collector” in that part of the competition, however.  A collector prize is awarded on the beauty, and relevance or, not too sure of the second qualifying aspect of ones “collection” that is judged by the forces that be in the “body of judges of judges”.  To get all the info about it all, I think one may go to the bottom of my display page and click on a link that tells al about the show.  Oh!  Yeah, the show is all “images of the art on billboards in downtown NYC!  Imagine my cili hippy dippy macrame art projected on a billboard on Broadway, or Wall St, or Park Ave, Times Sq!  Imagine your own there!
